Assault on Liberty Mountain (Virginia Derailer Series),September 20, Lynchburg, VA. A challenge for he Expert/Pro and Sport categories with long climbs, technical descents, plenty of log-overs and maybe even a “skinny” bridge or two. Novice races as well.
Tour de Tuck Sylva, NC Sept. 20. 108-mile ride with 11,000 feet of climbing. 64-mile as well.

Center Hiking Club Another D.C.-area club with many planned hikes in the Blue Ridge area of Virginia and West Virginia.
Metropolitan Washington Regional Outings Program of Sierra Club has several hikes scheduled the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia.

Watersports
AW Gauley River Festival, September 19-21, Summersville, WV A showcase for American Whitewater and the top whitewater vendors in the boating community, plus it’s THE place to catch up with old friends, make new ones, and just have a great time with like-minded river loving folks. It is also AW’s largest fundraising event. All proceeds from the festival support American Whitewater’s conservation and access works throughout the nation. Live entertainment, a whitewater marketplace, raffle, and a silent auction where you can pick up some awesome outdoor gear. Come out and join us for a weekend of great paddling, exciting camaraderie, live entertainment, killer boat raffles, and the infamous silent auction.
16th Annual Gauley River Race, September 22, Summersville, WV. An expert only whitewater race with lots of media attention. Competitiors range from World Champion Rodeo Boaters to U.S. Wildwater Team members, professional videographers, river professionals on raft teams, as well as expert amateur boaters.
